US Open Wheelchair Championships presented by Deloitte
The first US Open Wheelchair Championships was held in 2005, and the event has expanded significantly over the years, starting with the addition of the quad division in 2007. In 2022, the US Open became the first of tennis’ four majors to have junior wheelchair tennis, adding a junior division with distinct boys’ and girls’ singles and doubles draws. Tournament Draws
The growing popularity of and increased depth of talent in the field of international wheelchair tennis has necessitated growth in the US Open Wheelchair Championships beyond just the divisions of play. In 2022, the size of the women’s and men’s singles and doubles draws doubled, from eight singles players and four doubles teams for each gender to 16 women and 16 men in singles, with eight doubles teams in each draw. The quad division, which also features both singles and doubles play, has expanded twice since 2020, doubling from four competitors to eight in 2021, and doubling again in 2023 for a field of 16 players. The US Open Wheelchair Championships junior division maintains draws of eight girls and eight boys in singles and four doubles teams each.

About the Tournament
The US Open Wheelchair Championships is an event on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour, sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation. The USTA was officially designated by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee as the national governing body for the Paralympic sport of wheelchair tennis in June 2002, becoming the first Olympic national governing body to earn this recognition. Wheelchair tennis follows the same rules as able-bodied tennis, except that the ball can bounce twice.

Adult Competition Format
There are three singles draws and three doubles draws. In the singles, there are 16 men, 16 women and 16 quads. In doubles, there are eight men's teams, eight women's teams and eight quad teams. Therefore, a total of 48 players in professional wheelchair divisions.

Junior Competition Format
The US Open Junior Wheelchair Championships feature two singles draws of eight boys and eight girls. Therefore, a total of 16 players compete in the junior wheelchair divisions. The championships took place from Sept. 4-6, 2024.
The US Open Junior Wheelchair Doubles Championships feature two doubles draws of four boys’ teams and four girls’ teams. Therefore, a total of 16 players compete in the junior wheelchair doubles divisions. The tournament took place on Sept. 5-6, 2024.
Frequently Asked Questions
The US Open Wheelchair Championships presented by Deloitte was not held in 2024 due to the Paralympic Games. However, the USTA made the decision to provide the players that would have been entered into the US Open via direct acceptance with a player grant to ensure that these players are receiving the equivalent of prize money as compensation.
The US Open was the first Grand Slam to debut a junior wheelchair tournament in 2022. All four major tournaments now host junior wheelchair tournaments.

The No. 2 seeded team of Ivar van Rijt and Benjamin Wenzel defeated American duo Charlie Cooper and Tomas Majetic, 6-2, 6-1, in the boys' doubles title match at the 2024 US Open Junior Wheelchair Championships, presented by Deloitte.
Diede de Groot won her sixth US Open women’s wheelchair singles title in a row, tying Esther Vergeer’s record for the most women’s singles titles at Flushing Meadows. She defeated Yui Kamiji of Japan, 6-2, 6-2.
