The US Open took a bold step toward its future with the 1997 opening of Arthur Ashe Stadium as the centerpiece of an expanded and enhanced USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The world’s largest tennis stadium, it replaced Louis Armstrong Stadium as the tournament’s primary venue and helped elevate the profile not only of the US Open but of the entire sport of tennis.

No man has performed better on Arthur Ashe Stadium’s grand stage than Novak Djokovic. In winning his third match of the 2020 US Open on Friday evening, Djokovic edged past Rodger Federer to claim the all-time best winning percentage in Arthur Ashe Stadium by a fraction of percentage points.

Federer has played more times in Arthur Ashe Stadium (88) than Djokovic (73), and the Swiss star consequently has won more matches there (77 to 64). But Djokovic now enjoys a better record of success on the US Open’s premier show court than Federer does.

Actually, it is whether you win or lose—and not how many times you play the game.

Below are the men with the best winning percentage (and their win-loss records) in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Novak Djokovic: .877 (64-9)

Roger Federer: .875 (77-11)

Rafael Nadal: .871 (61-9)

Pete Sampras: .862 (25-4)

Andre Agassi: .837 (41-8)
